The story
Caples Press is the publishing arm of Caples Digital, a direct-response marketing agency in Albany, New York. The agency is named for John Caples, the man who proved a century ago that advertising is not an art contest. In 1926 he wrote the most famous headline in advertising history, then spent five decades testing copy scientifically: run two versions, count the replies, keep the winner. No opinions. Evidence.
The 1926 headline in question: “They Laughed When I Sat Down at the Piano.”
How much can the words matter? In Tested Advertising Methods, first published in 1932, Caples reported seeing one advertisement sell nineteen and a half times as much as another. Same product, same publication, same space on the page. The only difference was the copy. Not five percent better. Nineteen and a half times.
The Press exists because authors kept arriving at the agency with the same story. They had paid for editing, a cover, formatting, the upload, and then everyone disappeared, right at the moment the actual work of selling a book begins. The publishing-services industry is built to end at publication. That struck us as backwards.
So we built the imprint we thought should exist: one team that edits and designs to a professional standard, then stays to do the part it is uniquely qualified for, marketing the book with the same tested, measured methods we use for every other product we sell. Books deserve craft. They also deserve customers.
The mission
To publish books the way John Caples wrote ads: carefully, honestly, and with proof that they work.
Every author who works with us should end up with a book they are proud of, full ownership of it, and a way of selling it they can watch working in plain numbers.
We are a small team, and we take on a limited number of books at a time, because editing done in a hurry is not editing. If your manuscript is not ready, we will say so at the free assessment and tell you what would make it ready, even when that means no sale for us today.
Humans make every editorial and creative decision here. We use software where software is honest work: consistency checks, ad math, keyword data. We do not use AI to write your book, and your manuscript is never fed into tools that train on it.
And we do not promise bestsellers. Nobody honest can. What we promise is narrower and better: professional work at a flat price, everything in your name, and reporting that tells you the truth about what is selling and why. That is what tested advertising has always been, and it is rarer in publishing than it should be.
What we hold to
Titles, covers, descriptions, and ads earn their place with data, not with someone's taste.
Flat quotes, clear contracts, dated schedules, and your name on every account and right.
Royalties, copyright, files, accounts. We sell a service, we never take a stake.
You spent months or years on this manuscript. Every edit, every design, every ad should act like it.

The parent company
Caples Digital is the marketing agency this imprint grew out of: an Albany, New York team that builds websites, runs tested advertising, and reports results to its clients in plain numbers every working day. When Caples Press markets your book, those are the people doing it. The imprint borrows nothing secondhand; it inherits the whole discipline.
